The SnapTOC feature, combined with Snapnumbers, simplifies the creation of tables of contents, particularly when headings are embedded within paragraphs, as shown here:

        1.    This Is a Heading. The heading is embedded in this paragraph. Generating a table of contents for this type of document can be a nightmare without SnapTOC.

With SnapTOC, headings can be marked for inclusion in the table of contents as you type a document, manually added later, or even automatically generated after the document is complete.
